Session 2, Monday, Nov. 8, 2004, 3-4:30pm:

PERIODICAL INDEXES

In this session, we will use a periodical index to search for materials on specific areas of research and browse recent publications by Japanese authors. We will focus on the online version of the Zasshi kiji sakuin (Zassaku), which covers Japanese language journals and some Western language journals in the holdings of the National Diet Library from 1975-present. We will cover the three ways you can access Zassaku from Cornell. We will also compare it to Magazine Plus, a subscription database that includes the scholarly periodicals from NDL's Zassaku, popular magazines (monthlies and weeklies including sports and hobbies) indexed in Janaru indekkesu from 1981-present, 1300 Japanese economic and business magazines from 1981-1995, and 60 overseas business magazines from 1984-present. In addition we will look at Web OYA-Bunko, a new subscription database at Cornell that allows you to search over 1.7 million journal articles published since 1988 in 370 journals that are held in the collection of Oya Soichi bunko.
