Chinese map of Tianjin, first published
in 1825.
This map shows the inner core of the walled Chinese city
of Tianjin. A well-defined North-South and East-West grid divides
the city into four parts. To the south the path leads towards the
so-called “Tientsin Treaty Temple” (in reality the Haiguang
海光寺 Temple); in the north and through the gatehouse, the road
leads on towards Beijing. Note the rather extensive waterways and
reservoir system within the city proper.
Reproduced from Tianjin gudai chengshi fazhan shi 天津古代城市發展史
(History of urban development of old Tianjin), 1989.

Plan of the foreign Concessions of Tientsin; dated 1908.
A very fine map with detailed annotations and descriptions. Note
the redundancy in services rendered to the various foreign communities:
There is a German Post Office, a French Post Office, a British one,
and so on. Likewise, all concessions house respective consulates,
plus so-called Municipalities, which are administrative offices
to represent residents living in Tianjin.
The American Consulate is located in the British Concession, since
U.S. interests in maintaining a concession in Tianjin were laid
to rest since 1880.

Japanese [latest] map of Tientsin,
ca. late 1930s.
There are three special administrative areas ( 特別管理區
) marked in light blue, which designate the by then defunct or re-appropriated
concessions of Germany, Belgium, and Austro-Hungary. The residence
of the famous scholar Liang Qichao can be found in the Italian concession,
here tinted in yellow.
A Chinese horse race course is indicated on the lower left side
(right above the insert of a regional map showing Tianjin in relation
to the coast and to Beijing); the Race Course for Foreigners is
near the southern tip of the British Concession, here shown in maroon
color.
